HISTORY
The Vision
The Vision for CF was born in the heart of Pastor Jim as far back as 1975. He and Susie came to Kenya in 1977 with the desire to follow a church model they were part of in the US. However, the Lord took them south and then north or Mombasa and as far as South Nyanza.
Humble Beginning at BP. In 1997, the determination to begin a church in Nyali led Jim to invite Gary Smiddy to join him in this effort. This was a great move as Pastor Gary already had experience as a pastor in Nyali. Jim and Gary found a shop near “BP” and began on June 30, 2002 after a ‘practice service’ on June 23.
Rapid Growth in Year 1
The church grew rapidly from the original 18 to over 100 within a matter of months. On the first anniversary the church rented a makuti auditorium at Reef Hotel in Nyali. Attendance that day was 263 and it was decided to move the church to that location.
Tent Years
After 6 months the church moved to a house on the 4th hole of Nyali Golf Club and put up a tent. Salvation of many and the baptism of the same continued greatly. Over 4 years in the tent, many came to Christ, many were baptized and began our original discipleship pipeline of 4 basic courses that are still contained in our Follow class.
To Launching Pad
In December of 2007, we moved to a 2 acre plot where we built Phase 1 of our building. While youth met in smaller tents, KOT met in the multi-purpose pavilion. Jim said on the moving in day: This place can be our final resting place (after being located in 3 other places) or it can be a launching pad!
Our Story – God’s Story
After the years in a tent, we moved into our present settlement where over the years we have built Phase 1, our Main Auditorium. Then Phase 2, called “Connection”. And now we are finishing up on the
Crossroads Community Centre. Crossroads is blessed to have great facilities. What a journey!
What a journey indeed, but it isn’t about our journey, and it certainly isn’t about our facilities. Crossroads
Fellowship is about people – about people coming to know God. It’s about changed lives for Christ. It’s
about God’s glory shining through hearts into our community. It’s really not our story – but God’s story.
His story of what He wants to do here in Nyali. I don’t think He is done yet! Let’s stay faithful and watch
for what He is going to do next!
