Mind Your Mind, Part 3

Did you know that God has a dream for your life? His dream for you is your transformation (change from the inside out). And this is not only God’s dream for your life, it is also a battle that is either won or lost in your mind. That’s why God tell us to “… be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬). Transformation (becoming like Jesus) begins in our minds, and so for us to grow spiritually we will need constant renewal of our minds.

How do we renew our minds? By meditating. What is meditation? Simply put, meditation is focused thinking. Rick Warren said if you know how to worry then you know how to meditate. Worry is when you think over and over about a problem; meditation is when you think over and over about God and His word. Now meditation is not the same as positive thinking; meditation is truthful thinking. Research has shown that people who have gone through a traumatic experience and learn to interpret their experience according to what is true recover quickly.

Here’s one practical way of renewing your mind. Always ask: Is what I’m thinking about right now according to reality/truth? If your answer is no, immediately replace your thoughts with God’s truth found in His word, the Bible. The Bible is our indispensable tool for renewing our minds.

Writer J. Ortberg wrote, “The most important task of your life is not what you do, but who you become.” And who you become is greatly influenced by your mind (your thoughts, attitudes, perceptions, memories, interpretations, etc) Therefore, mind your mind and realize God’s dream for your life.

Have a blessed Thursday!
