The Jesus Difference
A pastor asked his congregation to send him any questions they might have about the existence of God and he would try to answer them. Apparently most of them were not asking if God existed or not; they were interested in knowing: If God exists, what does difference does it make? I think it’s a very good question. So let‘s ask ourselves: If we believe in God what difference has that made in our lives? Sadly, it can sometimes be hard to tell the difference between a person who claims to believe in God and one who does not. Many people are walking away from Christ because they are not seeing any difference in the lifestyle of those who claim to follow Him and those who don’t.
Yet there is a transforming power associated with Jesus. You do not have to read far into the New Testament to see that Jesus was no ordinary person and that those who followed Him were radically different from the rest. They had different desires, different preferences, different priorities; they treated others differently, and responded differently to circumstances.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says that those who are in Christ are new creations. If you believe in Him let me ask you again, what difference has He made in your life? You can’t follow Him and remain the same. He is a difference maker and being in a relationship with Him results in a difference that cannot be made in any other way, a radical difference — just as light is very different from darkness — that will cause unbelievers to notice. And when they ask you about it cease that opportunity and point them to the difference maker, not to a church or a religion, but to Jesus!
Have a blessed Wednesday!
