Mystery of Prayer

Prayer is mysterious to me. I don’t understand the fact that whenever I open my mouth to talk to the Living God He is “all ears” not just to hear me but to answer me! He says in Isaiah 66:24 that, “Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.” That the all-powerful, all-knowing, infinitely wise and absolutely sovereign God has ordained to accomplish some things only in answer to prayer is unfathomable to me. Jesus alluded to this in Mark 9:29 when He said to His disciples who had failed to cast out a demon, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”

There are some things that will not happen if we do not pray about them because God had planned for them to happen only in answer to the prayers of His people. Some of you are only a prayer away from the healing of your marriage; some of you are only a prayer away from freedom from your addiction, or a prayer away from that breakthrough in your life. So pray because, as one preacher put it, “There is only one prayer God that can’t answer: the un-prayed prayer.”

But as you pray think more about Whose presence you are in and Who you are talking to. This will help you have the right perspective and heart-attitude in prayer. And what is the right attitude in prayer? you may wonder. It is approaching prayer understanding that prayer is not meant to be about getting our will into heaven; it is about adjusting our will to God’s will. Prayer is meant to help us come to want what God wants to give us. Martin Luther said it well: “Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance. It is laying hold of His willingness.”

If we can pray for you we’d love to do that. Email your prayer request to or text it to 0110096852 and someone will praying for you.
